Beth White is one of my favorite authors. She writes historical Christian fiction and brings to life eras long gone. Ways of life we rarely imagine, she brings out truth and adventure found in it.

She does nothing less with A Rebel Heart. Set in the years post civil war, Beth White focuses in on the struggles of two young women, sisters who survived the ravaging of their home and are determined to rebuild. With twists, romance and suspense the story unfolds.

Raised as royalty on a southern plantation, Selah Daughtry is the eldest of three sisters separated by the war. Her abolitionist views set her apart from her family and her community. After witnessing the tragic and cruel death of her own mother, and the constant absence of her father, a Confederate Colonel, she is determined to put the pieces of her family back together and restore her home to its former glory.

However, she is not the only one with plans for the grand plantation. Opportunists arise from the North, and she falls in love with a man whose secrets would make her shudder. As the plot unfolds, Beth White does a beautiful job of creating rich characters. Insight into their pasts, and clues to the mystery, the plot is rich with suspense and twists. I give this book a 5 star rating. There is truly nothing I would add or take away from it. There were times in my busy day I would sneak away just to read a paragraph. I highly recommend this book.
